MOSCOW, Nov 14 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex will unveil its own smartphone, Yandex.Phone, on November 19, when it will also present an upgraded search engine, business daily Vedomosti reported on Wednesday, quoting sources.
According to the daily’s sources, Yandex has agreed on sales of the smartphone with retailer M.Video-Eldorado and mobile operator VimpelCom, which also runs its own monobrand retail chain. One of the sources said the retail price of the device was mentioned in early November as 19,990 rubles.
The sources said Yandex.Phone’s features are close to those of inexpensive Chinese devices.
Yandex was reported in August to be discussing the sales of its new smartphone with local retailers and mobile operators. M.Video-Eldorado held preliminary discussions of the deal with Yandex. VimpelCom said then that the company was studying an offer from Yandex. Mobile operator MegaFon was also discussing possible sales of smartphones, but no agreements were reached then.
